“The story follows a doctor who wants to retire but instead reluctantly becomes the only coroner in Laos in the 1970s, shortly after Laos installed a new communist government. Although it is fiction, I learned a great deal about a country I don’t know much about. This was one of those books that I didn’t expect to like but ended up enjoying a great deal.”
