Racism and the Church

Racism and the Church: A collection of titles

On April 16, 1963, Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. sent a letter from his Birmingham jail cell to seven ministers in the area. This document, well known for phrases such as “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” admonishes white clergy for failing to support the Black community’s demonstrations for civil rights. While Dr. King’s letter is one of the most famous statements on how people of faith respond to racial injustice, other pastors and Christians continue to address the church’s role in the racial divisions in America. This display highlights a number of recommended titles.
